Everything you wanted to know about the GrillSgt, were afraid to ask and wish you hadn’t now that you know.

I am the GrillSgt! I picked up the nickname GrillSgt when my mom sent me a t-shirt with that moniker on it. It’s actually very appropriate. I was in the United States Air Force from 1989 until 1998. At the time of my separation (Honorable Discharge), I held the rank of Staff Sergeant. That’s where the Sgt comes from. The Grill part comes from my passion and skill for barbeque (so far, there’s nothing I cannot cook on a grill!). So, GrillSgt! To find out more about my barbeque skills, visit BillCanGrill.

My name is Bill. My wife is Stephanie. We were married on May 14, 1994. We were best friends for 7 years before that, so we’ve known each other a long time. We met working at a mom and pop video store in Granada Hills, California. I proposed to her at an Anaheim Mighty Ducks hockey game. We had a blast at Disneyland the next day. We like a lot of the same things: music, movies, some TV shows, comic books (super heroes). We are still each others best friend. One rather unique thing about us is that we spent our 1st anniversary in Paris, France. I don’t think a lot of Americans can say that.

I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Geology from Mississippi State (GO DAWGS!) and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

I have a lot of interests besides barbeque… guitars, music and songwriting; bowling; softball; video / computer games; cruises; movies; web / graphic design; reading; amateur photography. Well those are just a few. Keep watching the GrillSgt’s Firepit for posts on those topics and much more.

I like action, adventure, comedy and science fiction movies best. Two of my all time favorite movies are This is Spinal Tap and Bull Durham. I’m also a sucker for super hero / comic book movies no matter how bad they might be. I tolerate most music genres, but I favor heavy metal and rock by far. There’s nothing like a loud, screaming, rock ‘n’ roll guitar! I’m a big fan of The Lord of the Rings trilogy (it’s not really a trilogy, you know) and the Harry Potter books, but I’ll read just about anything.

I have a strange, twisted sense of humor. Many people don’t get it.

My favorite tag-lines:

“Work hard! Play hard! Eat BBQ! Have fun! Rock hard! ROCK ON!”

“Let there be ROCK!” (AC/DC)

I’m a Scorpio.

If I could be any super hero, I would want to be Iron Man. He was my favorite as a kid. I relate quite well to the man inside the armor. I’m resourceful, always looking for better ways of doing things, hard working, etc., just as Tony Stark is.

If I could have lunch with two people, dead or alive, fictional or nonfictional, I would have lunch with Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin. Failure didn’t exist for Thomas Edison. Instead of failure, he saw opportunity and learning experience. He didn’t fail more than 10,000 times when trying to invent an affordable light bulb. Instead, he discovered thousands of ways not to make an affordable light bulb. Like him, I see failure as an opportunity to learn and grow. Benjamin Franklin was the ultimate statesman and diplomat, among other things. I would certainly love to learn how to be more diplomatic and tactful from him.

If I could walk into a room and have a theme song play, I would want the theme from the Transformers cartoon, More Than Meets the Eye, played. The song tells the listener that there is more to the machines than meets the eye. People don’t always get to know me (partly my fault) and, therefore, I am often underestimated… there is more to me than meets the eye.

So, keep your eye on the GrillSgt’s Firepit, bookmark and check often. And…

LET THERE BE ROCK!
